This is one of the most original movies I have seen since the Rocky Horror Picture Show. That isn't to say that they have anything in common except maybe being shocking for the time. This is a musical, a modern opera. This is not a film for the squeamish as it is violent and bloody, while the story itself is as dark and tragic as any opera of old. All that aside I found it to be quite the ride. The music is well crafted as is the choreography. The story line is quite appropriate for our times. Very entertaining. I would say if you are tired of the same old Hollyweird formula, trying on the genuine weird may be a nice change. Fast approaching my top 10 shelf.
