The Lovely Bones (2009)

I think this is one of those love it or hate it films. At the time I saw this I had no idea it was a book or what it was about, I thought Jackson had gone retro and done a horror film.
It seems much of the hoity-toity crowd can't be bothered with such pedestrian fare that is this film. A lot of the sniffing reviews I have read praise Sarandon and say that there wasn't enough detail in certain parts. What I say to that is the people who need detail in those scenes can relate to the Sarandon character too well. Remember Mozart was rebuffed by the 'experts' in his day as well. Thankfully they dont select my movie list.
Personally I think the less you know about this film going in, the harder it will hit you as you watch it. My first viewing left me thunderstruck like 'Monster' did. The film was hypnotic and mesmerizing, much like being in a car wreck and watching the pieces fly around in slow motion. I loved this film top to bottom, and it sits on the very brink of making my top 10 shelf. Warning- be prepared for a hard gutcheck.
