Looper (2012)

In the near future time travel becomes a reality and because apparently people haven't gotten any smarter there is an immediate world wide ban. Of course those outside the law don't live within the law by definition. In the future it becomes almost impossible to dispose of bodies due to bio monitoring (they don't really elaborate on this, just sort of state it as a fact) so the fix is to send them into the past where they are killed by hit-men as the victim pops into existence. Well you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that this simple formula is going to go to shit somehow. First off don't start poking holes in it too soon, just let the film be what it is. Its not a mindless watch (well some of it is), but just accept some of the details as presented... makes it easier down the road. Okay, as you may or may not know I am a sucker for anything time paradox, so I was doomed going in. This is kind of a Terminator meets 12 Monkeys but with no huge cyborgs. Some of the paradox FX are freaky and mind blowing and they serve up the whole banana early so you don't have to wait for it. Now you have to overlook a rather glaring 'gee what could possibly go wrong?' when they get to 'closing the loop' (yeah huh?), but maybe its why they are criminals and not brain surgeons. Anyway I rather enjoyed this one.. has plenty of action and, despite the beating I just gave it, is deeper than the average fare.. especially when talking about the affect on memory. Definitely worth your time. Recommended.
