Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (video part 1&2 2012/2013)
10 years after going into retirement The Batman dawns the cowl at 55 to battle a new menace, as well as old ones. Frank Miller's graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns redefined comics in general and heralded a darker grittier story genre. In fact many Batman fans won't even speak to you if you aren't familiar with the Miller version. If you aren't familiar with the book but like Batman, see the videos first before you decide to hunt down a copy. The story itself kind of closes out the Bruce Wayne portion of the Batman mythos and portrays the Dark Knight with a more 'real world' backdrop. This is a much more a Frank Castle style Batman, militant and brutal, though still not homicidal. There is a lot of worthy social commentary in this one, and an engaging mature story-line, not really aimed at younger viewers. Animation is adequate, though highly stylized, and reminiscent of the penciling style of Frank Miller. For fans this is a must see. Recommended
